Sequins and beads

Also known as ceremonial banners, they represent various spirits.  These colorful bead and sequin combinations are sewn on cloth or a rice sack.
It can take two people 10 days to complete one flag.

Back in 2007 I saw an exceptional show at the Museum of Art and Design called Pricked: Extreme Embroidery. One of my favorite pieces was this one called Afro Abe II by Sonya Clark.

Another interesting needlework show just opened at the Leila Taghinia-Milani Heller Gallery called In Stitches. This image is a sculpture made of spools of thread. When you look through the glass ball in front of the piece you see Grant Wood’s American Gothic. This was created by an artist named Devorah Sperber.
